Dermatology Glossary of Terms
Dermatology
Dermatology is the study of the skin and a dermatologist is a physician who specializes in the skin. The skin is part of the integumentary system. Integumentary means to comes from the Latin word tegere, which means to cover. Accessory structures of the skin are the hair and, nails, sweat glands and oil glands. The skin's functions are to protect us from germs, regulate body temperature, eliminate waste through sweat, and pose as a sensory organ of touch, pain, heat, and cold.
